Sustainable Campaign Social media
Eco-Wanderer Sustainable Campaign designed for Europe’s Famous Hostels to make low-impact travel not only the smarter choice but the more rewarding one.
In collaboration with Eurail and FlixBus, we created a system where choosing trains or buses over planes directly translates into tangible hostel discounts. Travel green, get rewarded simple, immediate, and user-empowering. Tourism’s carbon impact continues to rise, and younger travelers expect brands to take action, not just communicate ideals. Our challenge: turn sustainable mobility into an attractive, gamified user experience that drives behavioral change and positions Famous Hostels as a leader in conscious travel.

Concept & Strategy
Eco-Wanderer Sustainable Campaign
We reframed sustainability from sacrifice to benefit. The concept is built on a clear value exchange:
The greener you travel → the more you save.
By tracking the CO₂ you avoid by riding trains or buses, the campaign converts each emission offset into real discounts at participating hostels making environmental responsibility instantly rewarding. The narrative tone: Bold, optimistic, traveler-centric. A call to action that feels fresh, playful, and rooted in real impact.
Art direction
The identity brings sustainable travel to life through a playful, illustrated world full of movement and curiosity. A warm and playful palette draws from Europe’s landscapes and mobility networks, while expressive illustrations build a narrative of slow, conscious exploration.
Typography combines bold, signage-inspired headlines with friendly, functional text and handwritten accents, reflecting both direction and human warmth.
The result is a dynamic, youth-driven visual universe that makes sustainability feel accessible, joyful, and culturally rich without relying on traditional “green aesthetics.”

The elements
The visual system is built around a set of geometric elements designed to function as a flexible language rather than fixed motifs. These forms act as modular components, structuring the main poster and extending naturally across all campaign assets. By combining repetition, scale, and rhythm, the geometry creates cohesion while allowing variation, ensuring each application feels connected yet distinct. The system balances clarity and expression, offering a recognizable visual identity that adapts seamlessly across formats, mediums, and contexts without losing its conceptual integrity.

Digital products
CO₂ Saver Calculator
At the heart of the campaign is the CO₂ Saver Calculator a simple tool that turns greener travel into real rewards. Travelers enter their route, compare emissions, and instantly see how much CO₂ they’ve saved by choosing train or bus. That saving becomes a discount, unlocked by uploading their Eurail or FlixBus ticket and receiving a QR code to redeem at check-in. Fast, mobile-first, and intuitive, the calculator acts as both the engine of the campaign and a clear measure of its impact.

Website
The campaign website extends the Eco-Wanderer identity into a clear, travel-friendly digital space.
A lightweight interface, playful motion details, and route-inspired layouts guide users quickly toward key actions. Designed mobile-first, the experience feels fast, structured, and adventure-oriented matching the pace of modern backpackers while keeping sustainability at the core.

Printed items
To bring the campaign into physical spaces, we developed a series of posters and illustrated maps, stickers, placed across hostels, train stations, and community boards. Bold visuals, clear benefit messaging, and travel-inspired graphics invite passersby to explore the campaign and calculate their CO₂ savings. The hero poster celebrating inclusivity, connection, and sustainable mobility captures the spirit of modern European travel: diverse, adventurous, and low-impact. These pieces act as wayfinding beacons, spreading awareness and guiding travelers toward more sustainable choices.

Social media
To build early momentum, we launched a social media countdown leading up to the campaign’s opening a mix of teaser visuals, route challenges, and bite-sized sustainability facts. Once live, the strategy expanded into a UGC-driven system powered by travelers themselves.
Influencers and backpacker creators shared their low-impact journeys, CO₂ savings, and hostel experiences, turning the campaign into a community movement. Short, energetic messaging “Travel Green. Get Rewarded.” paired with micro-illustrations, and bold typographic hooks kept the tone dynamic, actionable, and rooted in Europe’s interconnected travel culture.

ORIGIN & IMPACT
Eco-Wanderer – Sustainable Campaign was born after the EU designated 2021 as the European Year of Rail, calling for innovative ideas to accelerate low-carbon mobility. Invited by the European Travel Commission and Eurail, Famous Hostels created this campaign to spark a new movement: greener itineraries, stronger local tourism economies, and a measurable reduction in travel-related emissions. With the addition of FlixBus as a partner, the project expanded beyond rail, opening the door to even more accessible sustainable routes across Europe.
Impact Goal:
Reduce 3 billion kg of CO₂ emissions within the campaign’s active timeline. Eco-Wanderer turns individual travel decisions into collective environmental impact one route, one traveler, one hostel stay at a time. Since its launch the Eco-Wanderer campaign has motivated travelers’ in Europe to reduce over 200 tonnes of CO2 and contributed to a 300% increase in Eurail users staying at its members hostels if compared to pre-pandemic levels.
